Mors (Roman) or Thanatos (Greek), was the God of peaceful death. (The Greeks knew there was a difference between violent and non-violent death). He was the son of Nyx, the Goddess of the night. He was sometimes depicted as a young man, carrying a butterfly or wreath that symbolized the soul of a dead person. Sometimes he was depicted as an old bearded man.
The symmetry, geometry, and regal air of this ring bring to mind the somber yet inevitable peace of slipping into the next world, and seeing a steadfast and comforting deity who gently takes your hand to lead you into the beyond. On his hand glitters a black stone flanked by two skulls.
